Celebrations, Parties

Chugga Chugga Two Two!

For Camden’s second birthday, I decided to go with a train theme. He had received a train set for Christmas so it seem like an easy theme to pull off between me working full time and being 6 months pregnant at the time.  There are all kinds of Thomas party supplies out there, but I opted to go with a more simplistic red and blue color scheme. I designed the invite myself and used a boarding pass for inspiration. My favourite touch was the puffs of smoke coming from the train forming 2’s.

Decorations mainly consisted of a train banner I cut out for the mantle and balloon garland I created and strung up throughout the main floor.  I also had some small circular hanging decorations I created using a train graphic I designed for the invitation.

We kept the food simple with ready-to-bake pizzas, wings, fruit and veggies.  Veggies were displayed in small plastic containers with paper wheels made to look like train boxcars.

My cake decorating skills are still pretty basic at this stage so I am very proud of how the cake turned out.  I am still scared to attempt working with fondant so using toys as decoration is a quick and easy way to bring your kids favorite characters onto their cake.  For those that didn’t want cake, I also had train shaped sugar cookies frosted with red and blue royal icing.
