Mickey and Minnie Disney Savings Jars

Mickey & Minnie Disney Savings Jars

In January I posted about the calendar sticker system we have implemented to reward our kids for good behaviour and help them save money for our November trip to Walt Disney World.  I have begun paying the kids out monthly and wanted a cute place for them to start saving their money.   I am proud to share these Mickey and Minnie savings jars I came up with!

A Week in Waterton

A Week in Waterton_10 Ways to Discover Waterton & Glacier National Park

In August 2016 we hitched up our trailer and made the journey down to Southern Alberta to spend some time camping and enjoying beautiful Waterton National Park.  We had attempted this trip years earlier and were disappointed when we were unable to find a camping spot due to it being a busy long weekend.  We learned our lesson, and this time we arrived right after the long weekend, and camped during the weekdays when it tends to be less crowded. How Your Kids Can Become Parks Canada Xplorers

Parks Canada _ Xplorers Program

Last summer we spent a lot of time exploring our National Parks both here in Alberta and into British Columbia.  I was worried some of it might get a bit boring for our young children, and was pleasantly surprised at how much fun they had being in the great outdoors and discovering everything the parks had to offer.

Parks Canada _ Xplorers Program

While staying in and touring Banff, one great discovery we made was the Parks Canada Xplorers program.  Geared towards kids, this program is based around completing a number of tasks in a free activity booklet and earning a collectible souvenir for your effort.  The booklets are available from the front gates, campgrounds or information centers and are filled with fun kid based activities such as spot the difference or word searches that relate specifically to tourist sites in the area.

Unlocking Magic at the Disney Store

Unlocking Magic At The Disney Store_Store Opening Ceremony

It should come as no surprise that one of the kids and I’s favorite stores is the Disney Store.  Although there are two here in Edmonton, we don’t seem to get to the malls that often and that means the kids are always excited to spend a good chunk of time checking out the new merchandise and playing in store.

Several months ago I hit up the mall while the kids were in school, and just happened to walk by first thing as the Disney Store was doing a special store opening ceremony.  I learned this is something they do daily and have been meaning to take the kids, so last week my daughter and I finally went to see what it was all about.  She was still too young for the Lego Monthly Mini Build I had her brother signed up for that evening, so I figured this was something special her and I could do that day. Disney Inspired Treats: Tomato Basil Soup

DIsneyInspiredTreats_Tomato Basil Soup Homemade Soup Day February 4

It can get mighty chilly in Edmonton in the winter months and that has me wanting soup.  Since National Homemade Soup Day just happens to be February 4, I thought for my February Disney inspired treat I would make up a pot inspired by one of the delicious meals I had while in Disneyland Park: the Jolly Holiday Combo.  This meal of tomato basil soup and a grilled cheese sandwich is served at the Holly Jolly Bakery and is a nice change from the hot dogs, pizza, French fries and other sugar laden goodies we ate way too much of throughout the park.  It might not fit most the standard definition of a “treat”, but it is a definite step up from the can of tomato soup I usually heat up on the stove.

Disney Inspired Treats : Churro Popcorn

Disney Inspired Treats_Churro Popcorn National Popcorn Day January 19

When doing my research for our Disneyland trip 2 years ago, it was hard not to become completely sidetracked by the pictures and reviews of all the amazing foods Disney has to offer in their parks.  There are blogs dedicated solely to sharing the world of Disney eats and one could easily spend a large portion of their time in the parks hunting down and enjoying a variety of sweet and savoury treats plus fine dining meals.
