Everyday Life, Two Legged Fun

Discovering Dino’s at Jurassic Forest

One of my favorite daytrips from Edmonton is to the Jurassic Forest in Gibbons, Alberta.  It is quick and easy to get to from the city and is great for both the young and the young at heart.  I mean, who doesn’t love seeing giant robotic dinosaurs?

It had been a couple years since we last visited Jurassic Forest, and when I saw they had added on a dinosaur themed mini golf course for this year, I knew it had to be added on to this years Summer Bucket List.

The highlight of the park are the full scale animatronic dinosaurs tucked in amongst the naturally forested area. With two large walking paths, there are plenty of different moving and roaring dinosaurs to discover along the way.

The park is well laid out with large wooden sidewalks throughout both trail loops that make it easy to navigate with strollers or wagons.  For those not rushing to keep up with excited children, there are plenty of information signs along the way to help learn about the dinosaurs and natural trees and wildlife in the area.

When you first walk in, there is a large playground area with plenty of sand and dinosaur sculptures.  We find this is a great place to stop and take a rest between the two walking paths.  Our two happily ran around, climbing up the backs of the dinosaurs and discovering the fossils buried beneath the sand.

There is also concession, where we grabbed a quick treat to cool off after all the walking.  I also noticed that, since last visiting, they have added on a great little picnic area for those wanting to bring in their own snacks or meal.

The mini golf course was our last stop and I think my 5 year old’s favorite part of the day.  It is a good little course, but I will be honest in that I was expecting the dinosaur theme to be more prominent.  I found the mini golf course at the Kraay Family Farms to have a stronger dinosaur theme.

We had a great day and I know we will definitely be back again.  With so much to see and do, this is a always a great option when looking for something fun and different to do with the kids on those hot summer days.
